I was too lazy to report a few weeks ago that Bob Orci had left the director’s chair for the upcoming Star Trek 3 due to unknown circumstances. Since then Hollywood has been abuzz as to who would be his replacement with names such as Duncan Jones and Rupert Wyatt bandied about. Now, according to Deadline and other websites it looks as if Paramount has found their man.
Well that was FAST. We haven’t seen much from Justin Lin’s next installment in the franchise for months until the sixty second Super Bowl spot a few days ago but now Universal has released a massive extended three minute and twenty one second trailer that basically spills the beans on most of the movie.
Say what you will about The Fast and the Furious franchise but this is one example of a series that instead of experiencing audience erosion is actually experiencing an upswing in popularity. Not only did Fast Five (2011) do well it obliterated the previous installments in terms of box office gross pulling in a hefty $626 million globally.
