Teaser Trailer – Cinderella (2015)

by Master Pillow

With Disney’s Maleficent opening in a few short weeks it seems that the studio wants to get a very early marketing start to their big family film for 2015 namely, Cinderella. While that is almost a full year away the project certainly has early buzz primarily because it is directed by none other than Kenneth Branagh and stars Hayley Atwell, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden and Stellan Skarsgård with Downton Abbey star Lily James in the title role.

Branagh, most known for his Shakespearean film output can be hit or miss behind the director’s chair helming big successes like the original Thor but fumbling with the recent Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. He’s a particularly odd choice to helm the very family-oriented Cinderella but perhaps studio execs hope that his Shakespearean background can elevate the material to greater heights.

Cinderella’s screenplay is by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, We Bought a Zoo) and Chris Weitz (Golden Compass, About a Boy) while Branagh has once again chosen to stick with cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos as the duo previously worked together on both Thor and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Admittedly, this short teaser doesn’t show any film footage whatsoever, yet the imagery of the glass “slipper” is easily iconic and recognizable to most moviegoers.

Cinderella is currently scheduled to open March 13, 2015 against, of all things, the newest Friday the 13th sequel. You can’t get two more dissimilar movies appealing to totally different demographics going head-to-head…
