Teaser Trailer – Godzilla (2014)

The trailers for some of next summer’s hottest properties are finally starting to roll-out.  Yesterday brought us the first look at the Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending and today brings the trailer for the highly anticipated reboot of Godzilla.  After the relatively weak box office performance of Pacific Rim here in Canada/USA I’m not sure how well Godzilla will do but judging from this trailer at least we can say that it looks light-years ahead of Roland Emmerich’s disastrous re-imagining of the IP back in 1998.

Movie Trailer #1 – Jupiter Ascending (2014)

Today we have the hot new trailer for one of next summer’s potential blockbusters Jupiter Ascending starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.  Both of these actors are rising stars but the real story to Jupiter Ascending is that the movie is written and directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski.  You know, the people who made The Matrix trilogy.  However, ever since they hit it big with those films the directors have seen their prestige take a nose dive with the box office duds Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas.

Movie Trailer #1 – The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Today we’ve got the first trailer for Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which bats in the lead-off position for next summer’s blockbuster season.  This is the first time a non-Disney film has claimed the coveted summer launch date since 2009’s disastrous X-Men Origins: Wolverine from 20th Century Fox.  However, you’d have to go back to 2006’s Mission Impossible III for the last instance where the summer movie season was kicked-off by a non-superhero film.

Movie Trailer – Pompeii (2014)

After suffering through a blog posting dry spell over the past few weeks I’ve got a ton of updates to get through today.  As I mentioned in my comments about the original teaser for Pompeii, I’m not a big fan of director Paul W.S. Anderson who has made a career of basically delivering potboiler cinematic entertainment and that opinion still holds unless this film somehow manages to hit it out of the park.  This new trailer really does its best to frame the epic Roman disaster in the same light as James Cameron’s Titanic by playing up the drama of everyday life that is suddenly met with a calamitous event.

Update – Man of Steel 2 aka Untitled Batman & Superman Film

After months of rumor upon rumor Warner Brothers has officially announced today that the new Man of Steel 2 (or whatever they are going to call it!) is going to have yet more superheroes featured in it besides Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck).  Who else is going to join the cast?  It’s….Wonder Woman now played by Gal Gadot who apparently won the role after a long casting process.

Trailer #2 – 300: Rise of an Empire (2014)

Back in 2006 the original 300 film burst onto the scene as an underdog contender and ended up grossing a hefty $210 million USD Domestic and another $245 million International on a rather lean $65 million budget.  The movie influenced young filmmakers and launched the careers of director Zack Synder as well as its leading man, Gerard Butler, most recently seen in the hit Olympus Has Fallen.  Still, I don’t think any moviegoer thought that the film needed a sequel as the story tied up all its loose ends, yet knowing Hollywood it was just a matter of time till someone decided to revisit the franchise.

Galactic Pillow Update – December 2013

Apologies for the lack of updates over the past few weeks but I’ve been busy with next-gen gaming as you can tell by my two editorials about the PS4 and the Xbox One.  Long story short, gamers and general consumers should be pleased if they wake up on Christmas morning with either one sitting underneath the tree.

Editorial: “10 Days With the Xbox One” Hardware & Software Impressions

In my last blog post I presented my impressions of Sony’s Playstation 4 but as it is only fair this week’s editorial is all about Microsoft’s Xbox One.  If you are a die-hard gamer the past two weeks have been a whirlwind with the launch of both next-gen systems and approximately 40+ games that all attempt, in some way or other, to showcase what the future of console video gaming is all about.  My impressions of the PS4 have so far been highly positive so let’s see if Microsoft can also hit a home run.
