New Trailer – Life of Pi (2012)

Here is the newest official trailer from Ang Li’s Life of Pi which joins the fray for an Academy Award nomination. Based on the best-selling book by Yann Martel Life of Pi is certainly one of those projects that has Hollywood buzzing since the source material has often been described as “unfilmable.” Pre-release hype is high as industry vets have been circling this film for months ever since its preview months ago in front of a very receptive audience. Still, visuals aside the jury is still out as to how well Ang Li has managed to condense a rather labyrinthine plot into a feature film.
As a side note: I would have used something other than Coldplay’s “Paradise” as the background music. Oh well, 20th Century Fox marketing better get it in overdrive soon with the ad campaign considering this is their “big” film for the Winter season. I certainly don’t envy the marketing team as they somehow have to convince mainstream audiences to watch a movie featuring a “fantastical” plot about a young Indian boy being stranded on the ocean for over 200 days along with a Bengal tiger, an orangutan, a hyena and a zebra.
Life of Pi opens American Thanksgiving Weekend on November 21 and goes up against the 3D animated family movie Rise of the Guardians along with the Red Dawn reboot.
