New Trailer – The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

by Master Pillow

Now that Peter Jackson’s Hobbit has been moved from a series of two films to a full blown trilogy the only question that remains is if he has been able to recapture the magic of his original Lord of the Rings movies.  Judging from this new trailer to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) it visually appears that Jackson has effortlessly picked up where he left off even though approximately nine years has passed since Return of the King.

Is another Academy Award in the cards?  Who knows as it is far too early to tell if this new trilogy will reach the heights of his previous work.  I am cautiously optimistic about it yet part of me is still worried that the series that was initially envisaged as two films will feature too much bloat and extraneous material in its conversion into a trilogy.

Jackson has re-united with a large majority of the crew that worked with him during Lord of the Rings including Howard Shore whose musical score was simply divine.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) is scheduled to open in Canada and the USA on December 14 although it will have its world premiere in New Zealand on November 28.

The second movie, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), opens roughly one year later in Canada and the USA on December 13, 2013.

The final film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again (2014), is tentatively pencilled in for release on July 18, 2014 although I wouldn’t be surprised if it got delayed till the Winter season 2014.
