Life – Miniatur Wunderland

by Master Pillow

It’s not so often that I get pleasantly surprised while surfing the Internet for whatever stories catch my eye but here is a Youtube video extolling the virtues of the Miniatur Wunderland tourist attraction in Hamburg, Germany.  I have seen miniature models before but never of this scope and as this feature video presents I am stunned by the level of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail that is apparent in this project.

The Miniatur Wunderland is the world’s biggest model railway although this video gives an update that shows the newest attraction as being a fully functional model airport which is amazing to see especially at night.  The entire world is on a timer which cycles between night and day and it appears to have a lot of user interaction through strategically placed buttons which start pre-defined actions such as model tractors to move.

I have never been to Germany before as the closest I have ever come is Amsterdam in the Netherlands during a school trip that now seems like an eon ago!  If I ever manage to visit Hamburg I’ll be sure to make a trip to see what wonders the Miniatur Wunderland holds.

As an end note though, I am a bit surprised to see quite a lot of sexual inneuendo laced throughout the video albeit in good taste although that bit with the rocking van certainly brought a smile to my face.

If I ever make it to Hamburg I’ll be sure to check it out! There are actually a lot of miniature cities/model tourist attractions around the world such as the Window of the World in Shenzhen or Tobu World Square in Japan.
