Movie Review – The Notebook (2004)

As the years have gone by many film genres have seen their popularity rise and fall as audience interest has undergone a metamorphosis. Musicals and Westerns, so prevalent in the 1940s-1950s have been largely ignored in the current climate that more favors science fiction and gritty realism. Cinephiles are no longer enamored with ten gallon hats, the pony express or random bursting out into song and dance routines while singing in the rain. To this list add tales of everlasting love as the romantic film also seems to have gone the way of the dodo. Sure, you can still get love subplots in just about every current film but you aren’t very likely to find one that focuses dramatically on straight up romance between the main characters.
