Movie Review – The Shipping News (2001)

Kevin Spacey is one of the only actors in the history of Hollywood to win two acting statuettes, one for his supporting role in Usual Suspects and the other for best actor in American Beauty.  His acting credentials are flawless and though he’s one of the best thespians of our time his latest endeavor, The Shipping News, seems too much like familiar territory.

Movie Review – Kate & Leopold (2001)

If there’s one lesson learned from Kate & Leopold is that Meg Ryan’s act is running thin as she’s played so many similar romantic roles in these light comedies that she has become synonymous with them.  Perhaps her reliance on these sorts of characters stems from the fact that the public doesn’t seem to be able to take her seriously in more dramatic parts.  Looking at her career, she has indeed attempted many times to break out of her comfort zone (i.e. Courage Under Fire) but the response from the general public has been lukewarm at best.
